Knowledge about the species geographic range and habitat affinities is essential in the species conservation programs Thus, it can be said that habitat selection is one of the most effective behavioral mechanism in the fitness of the organisms .Sand cat is a rare species. Sand cat is not well studied because this species lives in a harsh environment that is often remote, and these cats are nocturnal, subterranean, and secretive animals. In this research we investigated SAND CAT’s habitat suitability and distribution in Sistan and Baluchistan province of the south eastern Iran using Maximum Entropy modeling approach. Our results indicated that the presence of the desert bushlands and vegetation cover is the most important variable which affects the species habitat selection and use since it provide prey habitat use in the area. Since there is no documented conservation and management program regarding SAND CATs in the study area, this research can provide enough basic data for such programs.

Abstract Mitochondrial genes important tool in various studies in the fields of animal evolution, is phylogeography and phylogenetic. Based on the analysis carried out by sequencing mitochondrial Cytochrome b gene, five samples of Iranian jerboa and two Hotson's Jerboa from the Mirabad plains and Chupanan in Naein, Isfahan Province, respectively, were sampled, it was found that the divergence between the two groups, but this degree of intraspecific divergence between the two species is not enough to lead to the divergence. However, concludes that different habitat conditions, different diet and feeding behavior induced evolutionary divergence and this process in the future, especially in the absence of gene flow between populations may lead to speciation. Extensive studies and more accurate than relying on other molecular markers such as microsatellites and nDNA is suggested.

Quaternary climatic fluctuations had remained phylogeographical footprints on some organisms. Relocation of northern populations of many species to the southern parts during ice ages, followed by subsequent northward expansions from refugia during interglacial periods had been resulted in intraspecific morphological and molecular divergence. This model has been used Fat Dormouse was used as a model species for investigation about such events that happened in the Hyrcanian Refugium. By photographing of lower mandibles we would able to compare morphological differences between populations distributed along the Hyrcanian forests. We compared our results with previous molecular findings. However the role of remnant Hyrcanian forests as a refugium has been confirmed by some investigations but longterm survival and isolation of some species in this refugium from eastern and northern parts of Palearctic region trigged inter population’s evolutionary divergence. By investigation about these evolutionary diverged traits, some micro refugiums can be defined along the Hyrcanian refugia. In this study, we found some preliminary documents about the presence of eastern micro refugia based on morphological divergence of Glis glis as a model species.
